The answer is Basic Tendencies. In 1996, McCrae and Costa developed the Theory of Five Factors that explains the functioning of the personality as a system in which these "basic tendencies" interact with external influences and biological factors in the formation and maintenance of adaptive characteristics (eg attitudes, values, selfconcept).
