yes, don't add the denomenator
we need to add the tops only when the denomenators are the same
[tex] \frac{a}{b} + \frac{c}{b}= \frac{a+c}{b} [/tex]

make denomenators same

we got 3/5 and 1/2
denomenators are bottom
we have 5 and 2
5 times 2=10

make bottoms 10

multiply by 1
2/2=1 and 5/5=1

3/5 times 2/2=6/10
1/2 times 5/5=5/10

[tex] \frac{3}{5} + \frac{1}{2}=\frac{6}{10} + \frac{5}{10}= \frac{6+5}{10}= \frac{11}{10} [/tex]=11 and 1/10
