Pure food and drug act
was law passed in 1906. during the progressive era, giving the federal
government the authority to inspect meat and other edible goods, as well as
monitor what is put into medicines. This law required for ingredients be placed
on the label of a drug’s packaging and to be equal or above purity levels
established by the United States Pharmacopeia or the National Formulary.
