An earthquake can be felt in a circular pattern from the epicenter. if the equation of this pattern is x2 + y2 = 4900, how many miles away from the epicenter can you feel the effects of the earthquake?

General formula for circle is:
[tex] x^{2} +y^{2} = r^{2} [/tex]

Where:
x and y are coordinates of center of a circle
r is radius

Now we compare this to a given equation;
[tex] x^{2} +y^{2} = r^{2} [/tex]
We can see:
[tex] r^{2}=4900 [/tex]
[tex] r=70[/tex]

Earthquake can be felt in a radius of 70 miles.
